Operation of tricolocor and black and white e-Paper with one solution

New control board EJ8951EL‑1W makes it possible

The 16 gray tones can be enough to show the content at the e-Paper display, but sometimes it is important to highlight the main information with an additional color. Such three-color displays have been existing for long time already, but now there is a board to drive it.

The EJ8951EL-1W is developed to support both kinds of technologies: black and white Pearl or Carta 1.2 and three pigment electronic ink Spectra Films can bedriven with this controller.

The following displays from E Ink are supported:

Slim and plain design of the board allows to create flat mechanical solutions with e-Paper displays in different sizes. The common external interfaces facilitate the communication with host:

  • SPI interface

Via classic SPI interface it is possible to manage the display and display the bitmap on the screen.

  • USB interface

The board is recognized by host systems as an external device and allows image transfer. For easy start, the image for Raspberry Pi with required display’s presetting and communication over USB will be available for download.

The ITE T-CON chip supports the original waveforms of the E Ink displays and therefore secures the best picture quality at the corresponding operational temperature range. In a second assembly variant EJ8951EL-1W-50 the board can support two additional displays ED113TC1/TC2. As extensions of the board the front light control block and I2C communication are integrated. The functions are available on request.

The dimensions of the e-Paper-controller EJ8951EL-1W are 180 x 45 x 8 mm.
